giglio feast

An annual tradition for the Our Lady of Mount Carmel church in Brooklyn.  125 Italian men gather to lift a 5 story tall, 6 ton statue on their broad shoulders,  dancing around  yelling and singing in thick Brooklyn accents flecked  with southern Italian slang. And you get to eat sausage and pepper sandwiches and zeppoles while you watch.
